The Enchanted Bookshop

The Enchanted Bookshop

Coming to the Criterion this May

May 7th to May 10th, including 2 matinees

Tickets are now on sale for the children’s play “The Enchanted Bookshop” at the Criterion Theatre in Grafton.  With a cast of 26 young people, ranging in age from 6 to 16, this delightful play will appeal to a wide audience.

Written by Todd Wallinger from the Pioneer Drama Service in Denver, Colorado, “The Enchanted Bookshop” is a very clever story about a used book shop where well-known characters from many classic children’s books come alive at night and connect in some very interesting and often hilarious ways. Margie the owner has an amazing cat who meets and interacts with the colourful characters, acting as a narrative thread through the action and using all their feline wiles to bring about a happy ending.

In the course of the play we meet: Tom Sawyer; Sherlock Holmes; Dorothy; Toto; Heidi; Pollyanna; Book Fairy; Queen of Hearts; Wicked Witch; Doctor Doolittle; Hopalong Cassidy; Frankenstein; Robin Hood;  Long John Silver and a few more.

Director Leoni Ryan, who is running the after-school Youth Theatre Project, brings all these characters to life with colour and energy, exploiting the different abilities of all the young people to create an imaginative and thoroughly entertaining production.

The show runs from May 7th to May 10th, including 2 matinees. Tickets are available online at HUMANITIX or cash sales at Buckley’s Music in Prince St, Grafton.

The Criterion has table seating and is BYO drinks and nibbles, with a canteen in operation for tea & coffee.

See you at the Criterion!
